The Many Faces of Viral Marketing
from: Deb St. George - DebStGeorge.comThere are many faces and many conventional uses for the system of viral marketing. Viral marketing comes in many forms and can be highly beneficial to businesses. The outcome and benefits used in the process of viral marketing can be implemented into any business plan for years and years. Whether viral marketing is used to disseminate information or to entice people to buy a product, the end result is encouraging people to visit your website. People will almost always take the opportunity to be a part of something that will bring attention to a cause. Although viral marketing generally starts with just one person, they can make an event out of it by marketing the idea to others and waiting to see a development in their actions. This type of chain development can be the catalyst to seeing future developments in the marketing efforts.
As a whole, it is not always necessary either to spend money on advertising in order to get the idea of viral marketing out to the masses. People typically will not respond to an idea that is over saturated or one that is too visible and gains an incredible amount of attention. This is regarded as being unbelievable and customers simply do not respond. It helps tremendously to create several chains of marketing in order to spread a marketing message or a marketing cause. Sometimes this is often referred to as seeding and involves setting the tone for the marketing message to take place. In order for the seeding to be effective, it must be in the form of a type of marketing that people will want to take advantage of and will want to pass around to others.
In this type of viral marketing called seeding, the seed will sprout and then and then grows, and will then form other seed chains. Essentially, this means that once the first person is a buyer into the idea of the material, they will tell a friend, who tells a friend, who tells someone else. This process continues on for as many lengths of the chain as necessary until there are numerous penetrable chains. The marketing chains can take the place for marketing in many forms that appeal to the masses. This includes but is not limited to blogs, websites, news sites and email marketing.
Some viral marketing chains excel and do quite well while others fade away. The reason for this is not immediately known because just as in basic marketing tactics, it is hard to gauge the reason that some marketing efforts work while others do not. In the cases where this type of viral marketing is successful, these chains will grow bigger, stronger and become more sound, all while they lend themselves to the total strength of the marketing efforts overall. This is why it is so important to give the customer the thing that they are looking for over and beyond that thing that is more popular or seems to be faring well.
