Buzz Marketing by Viral Marketing
from: Deb St. George - DebStGeorge.comWhen word spread person by person this is the basis behind viral marketing, also known as “buzz marketing.” Buzz marketing involves the idea of creating a ‘buzz’ about a particular topic, subject, website or blog and entails using heavily the word of mouth advertising and approach.
Buzz marketing is a hot marketing strategy that helps your business get discussed and talked about in chat rooms, blogs, websites and community forums in various places. The goal of buzz marketing is to get your business’s names “buzzing” and to be highly visible in as many places as possible. Buzz marketing is a critical factor in helping you and your business stand out and be noticed on the Internet. In the process, whatever makes you stand out and be noticed is the very thing that keeps you in spotlight and keeps your name lit up. It helps to create small crafty little items that will help your business get noticed a little at a time. For instance, posting to social networking sites is not so different, but in buzz marketing, perhaps if you structured a give away in the midst of your social networking posting, those that read your posts will “buzz” and tell others about the fun things that you are doing and the items that you are giving away on your site.
It is also a by product of buzz marketing that relationships are cultivated with other bloggers and writers as you seek to grow and develop your blog’s following. Strategic planning in buzz marketing helps you to identify the things that can make your site buzz-worthy and lay out a plan for your business to succinctly follow. Usually, a significant period of time is required to do a marketing strategy and create a significant buzz through websites, press releases and blogs. Things that can help and be served in buzz marketing situations are:
Author’s book promotions – telling others about a new author on the scene and giving information about the author’s genre, style and writing flair.
Blog and website launchings – any blog launching that is profiled in a popular or frequented niche area; also any website launchings that are highly anticipated and have a high lead build up.
Small business exposure – this can be achieved quickly and easily through other blogs blogging on the small business’ efforts; it can also be done through press releases and information marketing about the business’ product or service.
Memberships in non-profit organizations – highlighting the board of directors, the organizations objective and/or mission and what the goal of the organization is; works very well with feel-good causes.
New product or feature release – works very well with highly anticipated products; the release can be further sparked by other blogs comments and blog postings on the product or service.
An increase in website traffic – sharing information about web statistics can serve to be very motivating for the readers.
Buzz efforts generally take from 2 to 4 weeks of intense planning in order to be successful. The successes of the blog marketing efforts depend solely on how much information is gathered and how that information is marketed to let the site fulfill its goal.
